Kotor

Before coming to populate the present Crikvenica area, local people used to live in Kotor on a nearby hill, which was first mentioned as early as the 13th century. The Kotor parish was part of the medieval town of Grižane, and seems to have had some very devout residents, going by the number of churches here, some of which were linked to monastic brotherhoods (St. Simon, St. Trinity, Most Holy Body, St. Mary, St. George and St. Nicholas).
In 1776, a big fire devastated Kotor, causing most people to move to the coast.
