Carnival Jadranovo
The history of Carnival in Jadranovo dates back to the 1920s, when groups of masked people called Jakovarske krabulje started their pageant across the village, greeting local people and cheering up their daily routine in winter. This tradition continued until World War Two, when the masks were banished. In the early 1950s, the local cultural centre started hosting masked balls. Thanks to the efforts of the Jadranovo Youth Association and the Company for the Preservation of Folk Customs, 1997 saw the revival of the local carnival tradition. Since then, a group from Jadranovo regularly participates at the Rijeka Carnival and at all carnival parades in Crikvenica and the surrounding area. Each Sunday during Carnival, the local cultural centre hosts parties for children with music and entertainment programmes, which are very popular among local people. On Ash Wednesday, people traditionally read out "The Sentence" and set the Mesopust on fire, which, according to tradition, helps leave behind all the bad things from the previous year.
