Event location:
Crikvenica

What makes Mediterranean cuisine so special is the use of local natural ingredients in preparing fantastic culinary specialities. Add fish and seafood, and you've got a treat that is hard to describe in words.
The month of June is reserved for a special week when the aromas of the sea can be smelt along the entire Crikvenica Riviera. By this we don't mean the scent of the waves and salt, but the aromas of various excellent fish specialties prepared mainly with oily fish.

Oily Fish Week is part of the Oily Fish Route project, whose goal is to preserve the fishing history of this area. A dozen restaurants from the Riviera have the 'Oily Fish Route' label, which means that they offer dishes prepared with oily fish, which is an important part of everyday nutrition.

Why oily fish?

Not only is oily fish extremely healthy and full of valuable nutrients, but it is also one of the most important foods sources in the traditional diet of the people of Crikvenica. The Crikvenica Riviera is famous for its fishermen, who have handed down their knowledge from generation to generation and invented various fishing skills, tools and techniques. Today, their descendants present their tradition and history with pride. Oily Fish Week is organised in memory of this tradition for both the people of the Crikvenica area and their guests who recognise the quality of oily fish. The programme includes music and dancing, which guarantees plenty of enjoyable moments for everyone.
The project won the 2014 'Simply the Best' award in the traditional-culinary event category of the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies and the 'Way to Croatia' travel magazine.

Step onto the Oily Fish Route and enjoy the delicious specialities on offer!
